Properties of the aromatic formula
The most appreciated property of the horsetail is the diuretic although also for its high content in silicon, it is used as a remineralizing, being very useful in bone recoveries. Horsetail can curb internal bleeding. It has a great ability to remove water from the body, for this reason is used as a remedy for weight loss or fluid retention problems. In obesity situations, excess uric acid or urinary tract diseases, it acts as a great depurative. To take advantage of remineralizing capabilities of the plant, the infusions must rest for a very long time before drinking them. Is also anti-inflammatory and antioxidant.
The hibiscus is very used in the infusions world for its characteristic red color that infuses. It contents ascorbic acid and citric acid that act as a two powerful antioxidants. It´s very useful for the respiratory system due to its emollient properties, softening the throat and relieving the symptoms caused by cough or bronchitis, these same virtues turn it into a digestive healer, protecting the gastric mucosa. Some of its compounds also help to improve the blood flow and the hypertension.
The elder flower ingested in infusion is an excellent remedy for the problems or diseases of the respiratory system , colds, bronchitis, specially to relieve the cough, lowers fever with stimulation of sweating, thanks to its potassium salts content, which also convert it in a good diuretic, for this reason it is quite beneficial for the urinary system problems as infection, stones in the kidney or kidney inflammation. It helps to eliminate uric acid.
Etymology of the main ingredients
HORSETAIL, “Equisetum arvense”. “Equisetum” comes from Latin, it means something like “horse hair”, “arvenses” refers to it typical environment, the “fields”.
HIBISCUS, “Hibiscus sabdariffa”. “Hibiscus” from the Latin “Hibiscum”, name used by Plinius to indicate the Althaea officinalis, its name also derived from the Greek “Ibiskos” referring to some Malvaceae”, the name of the type “sabdariffa” derives from a local name used in India.
ELDER FLOWER, “Sambucus nigra”. “Sambucus” comes from Greek “Sambyke”, a musical instrument that was made with the branches of this plant which were emptied. The specific epithet “nigra”, from Latin “niger” refers to the color of the ripe fruits.
